Accountability

British Columbia's politicians need to affirm their commitment to transparency and accountability. BC requires real action on these fronts, which have deteriorated in recent years. The BC Liberals have increased spending in many areas, yet they have shown little regard for oversight and accountability. In fact, despite the spending increases the BC Auditor General had its budget cut while seeing its list of responsibilities grow longer.

Furthermore, the province must respect the wishes of taxpayers for access to information and greater involvement. The taxpayer-led initiative against the HST should not have been brushed aside or delayed by the provincial government. Similarly poor discipline was shown in the provincial government's behavior around the BC Rail Scandal. Taxpayers deserve better, and we urge our politicians in BC to hold themselves to a higher standard.
