Stop the Free Speech Police

An 80 year-old man is jailed for having an objectionable answering machine message.

A weekly magazine is brought before a legal tribunal because of an editorial cartoon.

A pastor is given a gag order and is forced to renounce his religious beliefs.

This sort of thing can’t happen in Canada, right? Think again!

Everyday Canada’s Human Rights Commissions hear ludicrous case that have nothing to do with the basic rights and freedoms provided to us under the Charter.

Here are some recent examples of CHRC abuses:
• Marise Myrand vs. Ste. Marie Condo Association: A severely overweight woman sues her entire condo co-op when she could not choose her parking space close to the elevator door. The person who had the parking space was a 60 year old woman with limited mobility, and she was unwilling to give it up. The tribunal ruled the condo association give Ms. Myrand the parking spot as well as $10,000 in damages.

• Datt vs. McDonald’s Restaurants: One employee felt McDonald’s hand washing policy irritated her skin. Result, McDonald’s was forced to pay more than $50,000 and scrap their hand washing policy.

• Ezra Levant: Mr. Levant was brought before the Human Rights Commission to answer for an editorial cartoon published in a magazine. Although the complaint was eventually withdrawn, Mr. Levant owed thousands of dollars in legal bills while his recent accuser did not have to pay a cent.

Instead of hearing cases of true discrimination, our Human Rights Commissions have evolved into absurd theatre productions designed to protect people’s feelings and censor free speech at the taxpayers expense.

Annually, these commissions cost Canadian taxpayers approximately $68 million.  That is $68 million of your money creating an atmosphere of political correctness gone mad.

Human Rights Commissions have outlived their usefulness in Canada.  Given that we are all treated equally under the law, these kangaroo courts should be abolished completely!

The belief in free speech has always been one of the guiding principles of the National Citizens Coalition.  I am sure you agree that the protection of this basic right is a battle that must be won.

Through radio spots, billboards and web video’s we are going to make sure that the abolition of Human Rights Commissions is part of the national debate during the next federal election.

Your contribution to Stop the Free Speech Police is needed today, so that we continue to spread this message across the country, and finally put an end to this assault on our basic freedoms.
