British Columbia has been blessed with a very rich store of natural resources to draw upon. In fact, this resource wealth has largely provided the engine for British Columbia's massive economic growth over the preceding decades. It is vital that British Columbia not deny this legacy - instead, it must be incorporated into any successful plans for B.C.'s economic future.
The provincial government must demonstrate its leadership on this front by encouraging economic development in the resource sector. Too many British Columbians have been laid off in the forestry, fisheries, and mining sectors. BC was built on these industries, and the provincial government must always recognize this while trying to move forward. As we emerge from recession, the province needs to encourage job creation and private enterprise.
