Ontario's taxpayers fighting to be heard in this election

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TORONTO (September 21, 2011) - After being brushed aside for the past eight years, Ontario's taxpayers are demanding to be heard in this election. PC Party leader Tim Hudak has now signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, promising not to raise taxes in Ontario if he is elected Premier this October.

"Taxpayers are grateful for this announcement - after eight years of broken promises, hidden fees, and new taxes," says Peter Coleman, President and CEO of Ontarians for Responsible Government.

After making this same pledge in 2003 and 2007, Dalton McGuinty went back on his word numerous times to introduce a litany of new taxes - which collectively have taxpayers seeing red this election season.

"We congratulate Mr. Hudak - his pledge is a step in the right direction, but Ontarians need more than a tax freeze. Ontarians need a commitment to lower taxes," adds Coleman. "

Ontarians for Responsible Government will be pressing hard to keep more money in taxpayers' pockets and to get our economy back on track. A detailed outline of these plans can be found on our website at www.OntarioAgenda.org.

"Ontarians are currently taxed at the highest levels in our province's history - it is time for our politicians to rein in their spending and bring our taxes into line."

Ontarians for Responsible Government is a project of the National Citizens Coalition.
