Fiscal Common Sense

There can be no mistake, British Columbia is a prosperous province. Indeed, BC has become one of Canada's few provinces that actually fund Canada's 'have-not' provinces through equalization payments.  Solid, economic fundamentals helped BC reach this point - but in recent years, taxpayers have been dismayed to watch their province abandon sound fiscal management in exchange for higher spending and increased taxes.

Since 2005 British Columbians have watched government spending increase by nearly 33%, climbing from to over $40-billion this year. This has had an enormous impact on the provincial debt, which will likely reach $60-billion in the next two years - this is nearly double what the Liberals inherited when they took office.

There is no time to waste - it is time for a new emphasis on fiscal restraint in BC. Taxpayers will be spending approximately $8-million each and every day to service the debt - this is unsustainable and sacrifices the standard of living for all British Columbians.
