June 8, 2011 In Ontario, the provincial government has been using taxpayers dollars to subsidize "green" automobiles. Rebates, ranging from $5000 - $8500, can reach up to a quarter of the total price for many qualifying vehicles. All told, since 2006 taxpayers have paid more than $24-million on other peoples' cars! Ouch!
June 1, 2011 Canada's Finance Minister has just announced that despite the post-recession rebound of North America's automakers, Canada will not be fully reimbursed for its bailout loans. Though much has been made about the automakers' ahead-of-schedule payments offered thus far, taxpayers will remain on the hook for upwards of a billion dollars! Ouch. |
