Ontarians were surprised by the sudden, unannounced additional of eco-fee surcharges on their shopping bills this past year. Greeted by outrage over the poorly managed, unequally applied fees, the provincial Liberals quickly abandoned their efforts. Now, Ontario taxpayers have learned that they will be tapped for an $18-million bill to pay for this unlooked-for government intrusion. Ouch!

Today, disgraced ex-Senator Raymond Lavigne resigned from public office. Lavigne was convicted earlier this month of defrauding the federal government and claiming thousands of dollars of fraudulent travel expenses. Lavigne resigned only minutes before his colleagues were set to debate a motion to remove him from office - and because of his last minute shenanigans, he will still be eligible for an overly generous, taxpayer-funded pension. Ouch!

Toronto city Councillor Cesar Palacio billed taxpayers for $5700 worth of compost last year. This alone is strong evidence that Councillors really need their office budgets cut. Ouch!
