Under the Canada Elections Act each federal political party receives a subsidy of $1.95 per vote.  This results in annual subsides of approximately $30 million.  That is $30 million in taxpayer funded handouts...Ouch!

Wayne Clarkson, the Executive Director of Telefilm Canada, travelled to Cannes France for the Cannes Festival in 2008. The trip costs included $5,119.07 in airfare, $7,687.27 in accommodation, $1,263 in meals and incidentals, and $199 in other transportation. This totals $14,260.92 for an eleven day trip to the Cannes Festival...Ouch!

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation reported that Toronto Mayor David Miller, twelve councilors and four staff members went to a conference in Quebec in May of 2008 for a cost of $41,854.57. Not only were seventeen staff members included in the trip but some expense claims were lacking receipts...Ouch!

It is funded by the Canadian federal government and Canadian Cable and direct-to-home satellite industries. The 2007-2008 Canadian Television Fund annual report showed the funding of a program called "Drunk and on Drugs Happy Fun Time Hour" for $50,900...Ouch!

The $4.7 million program PromArt administered by the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (that has since been cancelled) provided grants for international travel to Canadian Artists. One prominent example of why they cancelled this program was the $3,000 grant that they gave to a Toronto rock band called 'Holy F**k' to tour the U.K ...Ouch!

Stephen Harper’s expanded cabinet of 38 ministers will cost the taxpayers an extra $4.7 million per year. The total cost of staffing ministerial offices now comes to about $24.2 million in salaries. This represents an increase of 42 per cent since the Tories presented their first cabinet in 2006… Ouch!
