Thursday September 30, 2010 Hot on the heels of Toronto City Councillor Kyle Rae's lavish, taxpayer funded retirement party, outgoing Councillor Adam Giambrone has just spent $15,000 of public money producing and starring in a video lauding his own accomplishments at the TTC. Ouch!
Monday September 27, 2010 All federal political parties receive a public subsidy of $1.95 for each vote received in the previous election. This means that some parties, like the Bloc Quebecois, do not need to fundraise anymore. Collectively, Canadian voters paid out close to $27 million last year alone. Ouch!
Thursday September 9, 2010 British Columbians have been lied to repeatedly about the true costs of the Olympic Games. It appears now that the Athlete's Village housing units are not selling very well. Taxpayers will likely be unable to recoup the $1.2-billion spent building the units. Ouch!
One way to trim our federal deficit is to reduce the budgets of overseas Embassies, and to cut back on the perks/pomp that has become rampant in our federal government. For example, Canada's ambassador to Japan filed 188 expense claims last year including a $19,000 trip across Canada. Taxpayers are questioning the need for such excess and ceremony. Ouch! |
